St Mary’s Catholic High School
Work to refurbish and re-develop Leyland St Mary’s Catholic High School took a year and cost more that £7.5m. A blaze swept through the school two days before the start of the new term last September, destroying last parts of the building. Despite being almost gutted. the Royal Avenue School has continued to operate from the site, with many pupils housed in portable classrooms.
However, the rebuild, being carried out by John Turner Construction Group, has been designed in such a way that it will restore lost teaching spaces and also improve the overall school environment
It has been designed by Preston architectural and planning consultancy practice and area surveyors for Liverpool Archdiocese, Cassidy + Ashton and will provide classrooms, new science and technology departments, extended dining areas, car parks and outdoor space
The new buildings cover 3,500 sq. m but the overall development plan has also seen a new extension to the dining room together with new main entrance at the front along with associated landscaping and car parking.
